Plantronics Voyager 8200-UC Stereo Bluetooth Headset Problem
Hello, I am not sure I am posting in the right place, if not, I am sorry. I bought a Plantronics Voyager 8200-UC Stereo Bluetooth Headset (privately). I bought it because I was told that it can connect to two devices at the same time, for example, PC and Android Phone. For the first two months, everything worked perfectly fine, headset connect to both devices automatically after pairing and phone calls and media worked perfect in both Computer and Phone. Then a strange problem started to occurr. I lost the abbility to hear media on the phone. Phone calls continued to work perfectly, but no sound on the phone (music, whasapp voice messages, etc). In the PC there was sound. I started to investigate and discovered that if I use the headset on the phone only, I had sound on calls AND media. But whenever the computer was in range or on, no media sound on the phone. Calls still worked as usual. I contacted your support and spent a month trying to debug the issue with one of your support engineers, Armando, who was very patient and kind. Things we tried: 1 - Factory reset - didn't work. 2 - Firmware update - it already had the latest version. 3 - Completely deplete the headset battery, refill and reconnect again. Didn't work. 4 - Unpair the headset from the phone and computer. Then, repair it, BUT, making sure I pair the phone BEFORE I pair the PC. Did that, it didn't work. 5 - For a short while, if someone called me on the phone and I answered with the headset, for some reason a few minutes after the phone call was over, I had media back on the phone, together with the PC. It would last for about 10 mins and then gone again. 6 - I went to the phone settings to make sure media was on for bluetooth - it was. 7 - I tried it with a different computer and a different phone, same problem. 8 - When the bluetooth is connected on both phone and pc and I try to hear media on the phone, not only I don't hear anything on the headset, I don't hear anything from the phone itself either! It is like the phone is mute! Meaning - the sound is going *somewhere* - but where??? This headset cost me a lot of money and I bought it out of my own pocket to have the best of the best. The conclusion that the Support person got is that I have a faulty headset and I should send it back and ask for a replacement. Problem is, I bought it from Amazon USA and I live in a different country. Sending it back and then back to me again would cost me as much as buying a new headset. So I am writing here as my last resort, to see if anyone has any ideas. This headset is invaluable to my daily life and this issue is a serious problem for me. Please let me know if you can help. Kind regards and thanks in advance.

Try installing Plantronics Hub on PC from www.plantronics.com/software and locate the device setting called “Streaming Audio (A2DP)”. Ensure it is set to On. Also confirm that when using it with PC, you are using the BT600 dongle and not pairing directly to the PC. https://www.plantronics.com/content/dam/plantronics/documents-and-guides/user-guides/plantronics-hub-desktop_user-interface-reference_en.pdf

Hi lcollins, thank you so much for your reply. I am pairing with the BT600, not directly to the PC. Regarding the Hub, I have it on my phone but I can't install on my laptop because it is Linux, and I don't see a version for Linux in the site that you sent. Note that this being a Linux LT has nothing to do with the issue because as I mentioned earlier, it worked great for quite some time. I will install in my Windows computer and test and let you know how it goes. If you have a Hub for Linux, please let me know where I can download. Kind Regards!

lcollins
Hi again, Is the Streaming Audio setting set to “On” in Hub on your mobile phone?

Kitty
Hi there - yes it is. In the beginning I thought the problems were because of Linux (which I know is not supported), but then I tried on Windows and got the same result. Thanks again for trying to help!

lcollins
Have you tried using Hub on Windows to apply all available firmware updates to both BT600 and 8200 UC headset (attach it directly with micro USB to update headset)... let me know

Kitty
Did it, didn't help - no media sound on the phone. On PC everything works, on phone only calls. And media sound is turned on on PLT settings on phone.

Kitty
And update - I need it so badly that I bought a new one - following the advice that the headset was faulty...and...same problem :-(

lcollins
Let me check on something and get back to you. Also, what phone make/model?

lcollins
Also, is the BT600 attached directly to PC or via a docking station?

lcollins
One more thing, when the issue occurs, what is the status of the BT600 LED? Is it solid blue, flashing blue, flashing purple, etc.?

I have exactly the same problem ... looks like plantronics have an issue here. The streaming audio is definitely turned on. My headset connected to laptop via BT600 and bluetooth connection to iphone. iphone audio becomes non-existent like its on mute. This is sometimes randomly OK then goes off again. Has anyone got any ideas? Mike.

I was having same issue. HUB on phone stated everything was up to date. I installed HUB on the desktop (PC) and it showed that there were firmware updates. One updated, it is back to working.

I'm having same issue as well. Due to some other issues (volume going up/down during calls), I've got headset replaced. But this issue (no media/sound heard on phone, when it is also paired with Mac laptop persists). I've checked firmware and it says upto date. Any other solutions?

Hi, Here is the answer: https://www.poly.com/us/en/support/knowledge-base/kb-article-page?type=Troubleshooting__kav&lang=en_US&urlName=KB24025&t=all&k=BT600 Please follow the "Workaround" section towards end of article to avoid apps using PC audio taking precedence and preventing mobile phone audio from being heard. Thanks, Lewis

Hi Nicky, Apologies we will look into this and get back to you. Thanks, Lewis

Hi Nicky, We have found the issue with the knowledge base article page. While we repair it, you can still get to the 5 embedded images, if you modify the image URLs, as follows: https://media-kb.poly.com/ProductionFiles/KBArticleImages/bt600issue1.png https://media-kb.poly.com/ProductionFiles/KBArticleImages/bt600issue2.png https://media-kb.poly.com/ProductionFiles/KBArticleImages/bt600issue3.png https://media-kb.poly.com/ProductionFiles/KBArticleImages/bt600issue4.png https://media-kb.poly.com/ProductionFiles/KBArticleImages/bt600issue5.png

I am having the same issue(s) as mentioned above. Some app is taking over my BT600 connection - slow blue LED blink...Tried to single it out via Win 10's Audio Settings but not much luck, not to mention that I cannot do much of any "Sound Troubleshooting" because my company has that locked down...But this issue just started up as a continuous challenge just in last couple of weeks. Previously it would do it, would be purple, and I'd just eject the BT600 and redo and all would be fine. Not now, though. Also - none of the links (from 2 yrs ago) work now.

lcollins
Hi, As this is a product issue rather than an issue about SDK integration, please feel free to contact our product support team directly at this url http://poly.com/contactsupport and they will be happy to assist you. Thank you, Lewis

Furthermore, I found this link that works although it also has missing images as mentioned in previous posts https://www.poly.com/gb/en/support/knowledge-base/kb-article-page?lang=en_US&urlName=KB24025&type=Troubleshooting__kav

I have had the same problem and it’s a simple fix. The problem is the PC is connecting before the phone. Pull out the dongle from the pc leaving the phone connected and the music will start coming through. Then put the dongle back into the pc and let it connect. Music continues to play.

I recently started getting this problem. Sound only works through my Voyager 8200/BT700 if I also have the "Sound Settings" menu open in the background.

lcollins
Hi Patrick, Please could you reach out directly to our support team: http://www.poly.com/contactsupport They will be only too happy to support you with this device issue. Thanks, Lewis.

Hello, I'm using Voyager Focus and BT600 and I'm suffering same issue. Each time I'm getting at reach of my laptop where BT600 is plugged, I'm loosing sound of whatever I play on my Android phone... Has this problem been fixed? Cause I just installed the last update for both devices and the issue is still there. I tried all settings above but the issue still there. Any idea?
